Understanding of Strep Throat

Strep throat is a sore throat caused by infection with the Streptococcus pyogenes or group A Streptococcus bacteria. This disease occurs most commonly in children. Inflammation in the throat due to the Streptococcus bacteria can make the throat feel lumpy, dry, sore, and itchy. However, the symptoms of a sore throat that are shown are usually more severe than that of a sore throat caused by a viral infection. You can do at home strep throat tests. Therefore, it takes medical treatment through antibiotics to cure this disease. If strep throat is left untreated, this disease can cause dangerous complications such as rheumatic fever and inflammation of the kidneys.

Strep throat generally occurs between the ages of 5 and 15, but it does not rule out that adults can get this disease too. Although strep throat can be experienced at any time, the bacteria that cause it are more easily transmitted in colder seasons.

Symptoms will appear about 2 to 5 days after contracting the bacteria. Symptoms can last longer than those of strep throat caused by a viral infection. Reporting from the CDC, strep throat does not cause symptoms such as coughing, nasal congestion, hoarseness or watery eyes like those caused by a viral infection. In general, inflammation of the throat due to strep throat can cause symptoms such as:

Sore throat
Fever and can reach 38.3 ° C
Sore throat when swallowing or speaking
Red rash
Stomach ache
Loss of appetite and sometimes nausea
Muscle pain and stiffness in joints
The tonsils may become red, swollen, and appear as white patches or pus lines (tonsillitis)
Red spots on the roof of the mouth
The lymph nodes in the neck swell

Symptoms of a red rash can indicate that strep sthroat is related to dengue fever. However, the bacteria that cause strep sthroat can infect the body but cause no symptoms at all. People without symptoms remain carriers or carriers of the bacteria and can still pass it on to other people.
