The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the most popular dive programme in the world. Once certified it allows you to dive independently to a maximum depth of 18meters (60feet) and a lifetime of intense adventure. The PADI Open Water Diver Certification is recognized and respected throughout the world. PADI is the world’s larges diving organization and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous and exploratory diving lifestyle. WHAT IS INVOLVED? The PADI Open Water Diver Course consists of three main parts:
- Knowledge Development (online with PADI eLearning, home study or in a classroom) including quizzes, knowledge reviews and a multiple choice exam where you will learn and understand the principles and procedures involved with diving underwater.
- Confined Water Dives which takes place in the safety of a swimming pool. Here you will learn and practice the basic scuba diving skills and familiarise yourself with the equipment.
- Open Water Dives where you will complete 4 ocean dives, on the Tallarook dive boat review your skills and begin to explore the vast underwater world around you.
HOW MUCH DOES THE COURSE COST AND WHAT IS INCLUDED? The Course price is $280 accommodation conditions apply please see end of page and includes:
- 4 Days tuition including knowledge reviews, pool sessions and open water dives.
- PADI Open Water Diver Crew pack, including Open Water Manual, RDP table/manual and log book
- All equipment is provided for the pool training and open water dives including mask, fins and snorkels
- PADI Certification
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED AND WHEN DO I START? The PADI Open Water Diver Course is a 5 day course. The course beings each week on a Tuesday 8am here at the Parrotfish Dive Resort, and finishes on the Friday at around 6.30pm. With larger private groups (8 or more) we are able to start the course on any day suitable for you. Day 1: Course introduction and collection of crew pack. Self paced learning. (Crew pack may be collected earlier and knowledge reviews competed prior to course start date.) Day 2: Knowledge development, quizzes, reviews and final exam 8.00am-5.00pm Day 3: Confined Water Training in the swimming pool and Open Water Dives One, Two 7.00am-6.00pm Day 4: Confined Water Training in the swimming pool and Open Water Dives Three and Four 7.00am-6.00pm Day 5: Relax WHERE DO WE GO? Knowledge development classes take place here in the Parrotfish Dive Resort. Through reading the manual you’ll develop an understanding of the basic principles of scuba diving, how pressure affects your body, and how to choose the best scuba gear when planning you dives. There will be five knowledge review sections at the end of each chapter with a few small quizzes followed by a longer quiz at the end of the day to make sure you have understood the key concepts of diving. Confined Water Dives and SCUBA Skills Training take you into the pool. Here you will entre the water for the first time and discover the sensation of breathing underwater. You will learn the basic skills of diving from hand signals, removing water from your mask, to some emergency skills such as regulator removal and air sharing. The Open Water Dives take place along the pristine dive sites in the Great Barrier Reef Maine Park at the wonderful Low isles home to turtles and great marine life..yes including Nemo. With a maximum of 8 students to an Instructor our students receive hands on personalised tuition and guidance during the dive and until its completion. All dives are boat dives off the charming sail boat Tallarook which provides both safety and comfort. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? To book a place on the Open Water Course just contact us and let us know when you would like to start. Payment is on booking your place to secure your position on the course. Once payment is received you can come into the Parrotfish Dive Resort to collect you PADI Open Water Diver crew pack or we can post it to you at a small cost. There is some self study to complete prior to starting your course.

- Reef Tax / Fuel levy - A$5 per person per day.
- Dive medical in accordance with Australian Standard, AS4005-1 (2000).
- 5 nights accommodation at Parrotfish Lodge in Dive room ($20 per night) or Port Douglas Motel Private room ($80 per night)
- Transfers to and from Cairns $15 each way

*Conditions: Must stay at the Parrotfish Lodge @ $20 per night 5 nights minimum stay or Port Douglas Motel @ $80 per night( 3 people max per room) 5 nights minimum stay. Please allow 2 extra days to allow for weather conditions extra nights accommodation are not included even if required.
